DAIMLER TRUCKS TO PARTNER WITH TOYOTA ON GREEN EMISSIONS AFTER DISPUTE WITH BRIDGESTONE OVER TIRES PEELING APART-
German truck maker Daimler Trucks (DTNA) -- the maker of the Freightliner brand -- and Toyota have announced that they will partner on new technologies, including using hydrogen fuel, to help fight climate change.
The companies said Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corp., whose top stakeholder is Daimler Truck, and Hino Motors, the truck maker in the Toyota group, will merge. Daimler Truck and Toyota Motor Corp. will equally invest in the holding company of the Mitsubishi-Hino merger, they said without giving a dollar amount for the deal.
The companies plan to cooperate in reducing carbon emissions and developing other technologies such as autonomous driving, net-connected services and electric vehicles.
In 2020-2021, DTNA and Bridgestone (Firestone) squared off over bad tires that had to be recalled on certain Freightliner trucks in North America. DTNA claimed the tires were peeling apart much like the infamous Ford Explorer tires, while Bridgestone claimed the tires were fine, but the trucks emissions technology design was causing the tires to fail. DTNA scoffed at Bridgestone's excuse and ordered a recall to replace the tires. Bridgestone, much as it did with Ford Motor Company, continues to blame the tire problem on the trucks rather than poor design. Stay tuned. This fight is about to get good ...
