A magnetic succession of stripped-down, hyper-close portraits, almost as though seen with a magnifying glass, Close Up asks us to consider the depths of the human face.
Every week for seven years, German-born photographer Martin Schoeller made portraits of the most recognizable faces of our time, as well as of ordinary people living private lives. In Close Up, he shuffles both, so that a mogul's sneer is followed by the gaze of a bandana'd woman, and a schoolboy's complexion merges with one of the most famous visages in the world.
