The upcoming Broadway revival of “Fiddler on the Roof,” directed and designed by the team behind the current Tony-winning production of “The King and I,” has cast two major roles, adding Jessica Hecht and Adam Kantor to star alongside Danny Burstein, the Broadway regular who’ll play protagonist Tevye.
Hecht, a Tony nominee for her 2010 turn in “A View From the Bridge,” will play Tevye’s wife Golde in “Fiddler” while Kantor, who starred in the 2013 revival of “The Last Five Years,” will play the tailor, Motel, who’s in love with one of Tevye’s daughters.
“Fiddler” looks to be one of the major musical revivals on Broadway’s 2015-16 horizon, not only because it’s a high-profile title with broad recognition, but also because it’s the latest from director Bartlett Sher and his design team of frequent collaborators: Michael Yeargan (sets), Catherine Zuber (costumes) and Donald Holder (lights). Although the team’s work on newer titles (such as the short-lived musical adaptation of “The Bridges of Madison County”) hasn’t always caught on with audiences or critics, their take on pre-existing work (including “South Pacific,” “King and I” and “Golden Boy”) has tended to yield both critical praise and box office gold.
Hecht and Kantor will star alongside the previously announced Burstein, the Broadway favorite (“Cabaret,” “Follies”) who’s worked with Sher in both “South Pacific” and “Golden Boy.”

The upcoming production of “Fiddler” will be the fifth Broadway revival of the 1964 musical by Jerry Bock, Sheldon Harnick and Joseph Stein. The most recent one starred Alfred Molina and Randy Graff in 2004.
“Fiddler on the Roof” begins preview Nov. 12 ahead of a Dec. 17 opening at the Broadway Theater, where “Dr. Zhivago” closed earlier this year.
