There are many kinds of kimbap in Korea. The definition of kimbab is rice rolled up in seaweed paper. The way each one is made has a different name. Today I'm gonna talk about nude kimbab. That's where the rice is on the outside of the seaweed paper instead of the inside like it's normally "supposed" to be.

Kimbap (김밥), I would say, is the most popular food in Korea mainly due to the fact that is easy to carry around and very portable. And it's less likely to go bad. It's perfect to take on picnics or children's field trips.

It consists of rice, vegetables, and often some form of protein rolled in sheets of seaweed (kim in Korean). The name "kimbap" is derived from the Korean word "kim," which means seaweed, and "bap," which means rice. So quite literally, "seaweed rice."

Nude Kimbab

To make kimbap, a sheet of roasted seaweed is placed on a bamboo mat, and then a layer of cooked white glutinous rice is spread on top of the seaweed. Various fillings are then added, such as carrots, steamed spinach, and pickled radish, as well as protein such as beef, ham, tuna, or egg. The fillings are typically arranged in a line on top of the rice, and the bamboo mat is used to tightly roll the kimbap, similar to rolling a sushi roll. Once the kimbap is rolled, it is usually sliced into bite-sized pieces and ready to eat.

Kimbap is versatile and can be customized to suit individual preferences. It can be made vegetarian by omitting meat and seafood and using only vegetables, tofu, or other plant-based proteins.

Kimbap can be found in many convenience stores and markets pre-made. There's even kimbab restaurants called kimbab nara (which means, "kimbab world"). It is a convenient and portable food that is easy to eat on-the-go, making it a favorite among busy students and office workers in general.
