RIVERSIDE, CA — The Christmas countdown is underway. With a plethora of packages needing to be sent, the U.S. Postal Service is answering with increased hours at select Riverside County post offices. In Riverside, La Quinta and Temecula, post offices will be open the next two Sundays to accommodate the upswing in shipments and deliveries ahead of Christmas.

The Post Offices will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. both Sunday, Dec. 11, and Sunday, Dec. 18, according to USPS spokeswoman Mayra Elena-Hernandez.

  • The Arlington Post Office at 10275 Hole Ave. in Riverside.
  • The Corporate Post Office at 79-125 Corporate Center Drive in La Quinta.
  • The Main Post Office at 30777 Rancho California Road in Temecula.

"We're beginning to see a surge in customers shipping their Christmas packages," Elena-Hernandez said. "We're holiday ready. We want to ensure that our customers are, too."

How long do you have to mail letters and packages before the holidays?

If you want to mail a letter through USPS retail ground service, by regular or First-Class Mail, you must get those holiday cards in the mail by Dec. 17, according to USPS.

Priority Mail packages must be mailed by Dec. 19, they say.

According to the USPS website, Priority Mail Express Service must be posted by Dec. 23.

"We hope these extended hours will make it easier for our customers to ship out their packages to their friends and family across the nation," Elena-Hernandez said. "These extended hours, along with the hiring of 28,000 seasonal employees nationwide, the installation of new equipment at select locations and the redesign of our transportation network, are special measures that we've put in place to ensure that we're providing peak customer service during our busiest time of the year."
