Last year, Microsoft announced that they will decommission the Photosynth website and services in February 2017. Today, Microsoft announced that they have closed the Photosynth service and website. Microsoft mentioned that key parts of the Photosynth code live on in other Microsoft products.

Microsoft allowed users to recover their synths and panoramas from the site for the past few months. Microsoft also highlighted that they are not keeping a copy of your photos uploaded on Photosynth going forward. Microsoft offered the following statement last year when asked about their decision to kill Photosynth.

We regularly review our portfolio of products and evaluate customer use and feedback to adjust our areas of investment based on how our services are being used. We understand that innovative photo experiences are important and are committed to development efforts in the experiences that mean the most to our customers.
