From a boy-next-door in Jab We Met to an Indian reincarnation of John Wick in Bloody Daddy, Shahid Kapoor came a long way in his two decades-long careers in the Indian film industry. His relationship with the audience has also been dynamic. Although the actor is mostly known for his commercial roles, he has delivered several out-of-the-box performances that remain underrated.
It looks like Shahid Kapoor is finally embracing his edgy on-screen alter ego, thanks to OTT. With ventures like Farzi and Bloody Daddy, we are finally witnessing the full scale of the actor's range. In an interview with Hindustan Times, Shahid Kapoor opened up about his transition from theatres to OTT and how one thing has never changed for him.
''I have always craved to have the audiences’ respect,'' the actor said. He pointed out that every artist, regardless of their profession, will 'create consistency in their graph' once earning people's respect. In pursuit of the same, the actor decided to try his hand out in the OTT space and challenge himself for the sake of his audience.
''As an actor, you should not just presume that just because you are a star, people will like you across the board, it doesn’t work like that,'' he stated. He pointed out that the audience has become 'mature' and is 'clear' about their likes and dislikes. That being said, Shahid Kapoor admitted that he was 'keen' on seeing how people would react to his performance in the digital space.
Needless to say, fans are loving the new side of Shahid Kapoor as an actor. Stepping away from mainstream rom-com may just have been the saving grace Shahid needed as an artist in the industry.
Further in the interview, the actor talked about the highs and lows and even the big actors being affected by it. ''It’s important to build a reputation,'' he emphasized and opined that a couple of failures should not 'derail' an actor.
