Review - Drop Coffee, Stockholm

Drop coffee roasters is a big name in Stockholm coffee, and is part owned by the great Chemex wielding HasBean owner Stephen Leighton. Set in we understand to be a trendy southern part of the city, Drop coffee has a clean and wooden interior that is very Scandinavian in appearance. They are known for their clean taste profiles and we’ve had their coffees in London in the past, so it was a treat when we got to visit the cafe in Stockholm ourselves.

Drop Coffee Roasters, Stockholm - Exterior

Serving their own excellent beans in slow and fast brews as well as a range of fine treats and baked goods, Drop coffee is a must for any speciality coffee fan in Stockholm.

Coffee

Drop coffee is a large roaster of beans for wholesale customers across the world, so it comes as no surprise that they service their own carefully sourced selection of beans in their cafe. A relatively modest looking La Marzocco 2 group sits on the counter, serving espresso and milk based drinks but we observed a set of Marco Bev SP9‘s sat on the side with an EK43 and couldn’t resist a pour over of their Bolivian Gerardo Escobar as this origin interested us.

We watched as it was carefully prepared, and awaited it’s arrival. Once we had the resultant warming brew in our hands, we took our first sips and got plenty of sugary sweetness with a slightly fruity edge and dark chocolate notes as it cooled and would have happily had another cup had we not had an appointment elsewhere.

Noms

Drop coffee has a fine looking selection of pastries and energy balls, as well as a pile of sandwiches and deals for breakfast and lunch. We didn’t stop in to try any of the baked treats on this occasion but will return to try them another time! We will update you as we find out more.

Surroundings and comfort

This is a clean and minimalist cafe, with a mixture of bold painted surfaces and clean, light Scandanavian wood. Wooden bench seating and tables provide good spaces for energetic groups and this cafe would be a good place for meeting with friends and groups on a busy morning. There are lots of different spaces within this cafe, which one could easily hide away in during quieter times, but the proximity and interior design of this cafe mostly indicate energy.

Service

The baristas at Drop coffee were terribly helpful and were happy to recommend us a coffee from their menu as well as explaining their taste notes. The true test of the skill of people in hospitality is patience under trying circumstances and we watched as they patiently dealt with what we consider a rude customer.
