Tubastraea coccinea Lesson, 1830

Tubastraea coccinea was common on some lagoon, pinnacle and seaward reefs, where it usually lives in caves or in shaded overhangs. It was also common on lagoon bottom shipwrecks, most often on the undersides of the wrecks away from direct sunlight. During the day the polyps are often retracted into the tube-like calices, although on the deeper, darker shipwrecks they often remain out during the day. Most of the photos below were taken at night.
